Love

Every man dreams of it,

Every woman craves it,

Every poet writes about it,

And few truly know it.

Love.

Take a walk with me down Lover’s Lane,

Shall I pour my heart out in vein?

Inked pages written in blood,

No dam can withhold this flood.

Love.

Imperfect are our attempts

Awkward sometimes; I’m not exempt.

Do I look, dance, chase, or touch?

All of the above; is that too much?

Love.

Romance brings red to our cheeks,

Euphoria overshadows the stress of weeks,

Beautiful are their eyes;

Hearts sink when they cry.

Love.

What of it?

Often fading,

Done serenading;

We covet.

Love.

Romanticized fantasies cringe

When reality checks in.

The suite of our heart, crowded

But we’ve allowed it.

Love.

Feelings begin fleeting,

As we start competing,

Fighting for attention,

Pride raised tension.

Love.

Is this really

A glass ceiling?

Capped off post-chase,

Consider with most haste.

Love.

Time passes ever quickly,

Our hearts are sickly,

Visiting The Doctor,

He says, like a proctor,

“Love.”

So how do we do it?

Do we simply choose it?

Will we ever lose it?

Can our minds compute it?

Love.

Always a student,

It is prudent.

Example’s been set;

Expectations met.

Jesus.

But wait, I changed the word

Or did I? The Word.

Is love really The Sword?

With my questions, are you bored?

Jesus.

Invested everything into nothing,

That we may become something,

Breathed life into dead,

Satisfied all hunger with Bread.

Jesus.

Chastised by many,

Ever serving,

Giver of plenty,

Followers swerving.

Jesus

Loyal to the bones,

Sought His Father’s glory,

Set aside His thrones,

That He may write The Love-Story.

Jesus.

Crowned by pain and thorns of deception,

All for our gain; Love’s reception!

Love.

One and the same,

Jesus; Love, His Name.

Love.

Patiently waiting,

Always chasing,

Never degrading,

Lie erasing.

Love.

Truthful always,

Intrinsic hallways,

Value esteeming,

Gratitude streaming.

Love.

Will you cherish it,

Seek it and give it?

Will others equate you with it?

Love.

I’m far from it, but ever closer

Jesus’ Love brings closure.

Love.

Expressive, but inexpressible.

Excessive, but impressible.

Love.

My thoughts are many,

And heart’s increasing,

But dawn awaits,

So I exhort, ceaselessly,

“Love.”
